Daylight Magazine

Daylight Magazine is a New York State based Photography Magazine dedicated to publishing in-depth photographic essays on important issues of the day.

There are free monthly multimedia podcasts and a print edition and they also run a blog with exhibition and book reviews and opportunities for emerging photographers.

Please check it out. It's really a fantastic resource for everyone interested in photography.

Yaakov Israel

Yaakov Israel is a photographer from Israel.

He just finished his newest project "The Quest For The Man On The White Donkey" which deals with the Israeli social-political landscape

It was done between 2002 and 2009, mainly with a 8 x 10 camera.

I like his project a lot. Here is an excerpt from his statement:

The “Quest” is an attempt to relay a personal take to the Israeli reality with a broader sense of belonging to the global human collectivity.

Because here the evidences of the past are so strongly intertwined with the marks of the present and the questions about our future: sometimes it is possible to see all this revealed in front of one’s eye, and all at the same time.
Part of my identity as Israeli is to question everything, not to leave anything for granted: to show the tensions that constantly exist, to convey the truth behind the construction of the reality.

Religious, social aspects filter into everyday life and their meanings are exposed as the journey moves on. Jewish missionaries, lost souls and individuals living in the fringes of the society: all blends in to form this landscape of humanity.

Paris Photo

Paris Photo, the world's leading event for photography is about to start on November 19.

There is so much great photography to see and discover.

Robert Morat Gallery from Hamburg, booth No. A 15 will show a selection of photographs from Jessica Backhaus' project What Still Remains. If you are lucky, you can meet Jessica at Robert Morat's booth.

At the same booth Andrew Phelps will sign his new book Not Niigata on Saturday, November 21 at 4 p.m.

World Identity Lab

Albert Handler, Anouk Rehorek and Christian Schlager are the founders of the Austrian network World Identity Lab.

It's an interesting project and worth the visit. So please check it out.

Their current project "identity sucks" is very captivating. Teenagers from around the world are talking about their live goals.

What is the world identity lab?

The world identity lab is a non-commercial experimental platform, created by moodley brand identity, that looks into different levels of what we call “identity” on a worldwide basis.
The main focus is identity as an overall theme, in its exuberant varieties. The wants and needs of people and the resulting patterns of behaviour within their specific social and cultural environment is the main area of interest. Micro- and macro identities, identity as a social role, identity as identification with a social group, identity as a summary of attributes that differentiate people from each other.

What is the Masters Mystery Art Show:

The Masters’ Mystery Art Show taking place at The Ritz-Carlton, South Beach is truly an exhibition not be missed. MMAS’s purpose is to contribute to the further development of the Florida International University MFA program. All proceeds will go the Master's program for scholarships, visiting artists, exhibitions and other projects. The MMAS is already supported by such important sponsors as Lionstone Development, The Ritz Carlton, South Beach and Regalia Vodka with key galleries, media and artists committed to its success through a high-visibility publicity campaign. Postcards From the Edge is a Visual AIDS benefit show and sale of over 1500 original, postcard-sized works of art by established and emerging artists. All artworks are sold for $75 each, on a first-come, first-served basis. The works are signed on the back and exhibited so the artists' signatures cannot be seen. While buyers receive a list of all participating artists, they don't know who created which piece until purchased. All proceeds support the work of Visual AIDS. Click HERE for more information.

Philadelphia Photo Arts Center

The Philadelphia Photo Arts Center is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization devoted to the study, practice, and appreciation of photography in the Philadelphia region.

The organization fulfills this mission by offering educational programs, photographic exhibitions, lectures by practicing artists, and affordable access to high-end digital equipment for the creation of photographs. PPAC is a resource for both practicing artists as well as individuals interested in learning about all aspects of contemporary photography. PPAC provides needed technical services and instruction and promotes the relationships and connections that will lead to a more vibrant photography community.

The center is a great place in the greater Philadelphia area, with exhibitions, book signings, lectures and much more.

On November 5, from 7 p.m. is a lecture and book signing by Mitch Epstein , His newest book American Power will be the subject. Don't miss such a superb event!!!!

Scott Pasfield

Scott Pasfield does a lot of fantastic work, Fine Art, Assignments, Portraits and more.

His project Gay America is extraordinary. Scott traveled all over America and made portraits of out and proud gay men happily living their lives in the state they call home. To every photo belongs a short story written by the man in the photo.

I was fascinated by the project and the wonderful photos when I saw them the first time.

This project has to be a book and I would be one of the first ones to buy it.
